CHRIC's First Time Homebuyers Program assists families
who want to purchase a home in Chautauqua County.

A first time homebuyer is anyone who has not owned a home within the 
past three years.  If you owned your own home more than three years ago, 
but have been renting since then, you are considered a first-time homebuyer. 
You are also considered a first time homebuyer if you owned a home with 
a former spouse but are now planning to buy a home yourself 
or if your prior home was a mobil home not attached to a permanent foundation.

CHRIC's HUD-certified mortgage counselors can help you with budget 
management so that you are ready to purchase and maintain a home, 
help you review your credit and try to resolve problems that may appear on your 
credit report that could prevent you from securing a mortgage, and 
introduce buyers to lenders, realtors, and attorneys.
Homeownership Classes are offered in both English and Spanish. 

In some cases, there may be financial assistance available to individuals 
who complete the Homeownership Classes to assist with down payment and closing costs.

Currently, CHRIC is administering a countywide program called 
Chautauqua Homeownership with Energy Rehab
funded by the New York State Office of Community Renewal's
Community Development Block Grant Program through Chautauqua County.
The Program provides down payment and closing cost assistance 
to First Time Homebuyers in rural communities 
followed by assistance with rehab that will make the home more energy efficient. 
The Program is available county-wide, excluding the cities of Jamestown and Dunkirk.
Rehab work must be directly related to energy efficiency.
